Those who keep beards, have to often face the prospect of a double-whammy: a bad hair day and a bad beard day.
While there is a dearth of information written on handling a bad hair day, tips on handling a bad beard
day are few and far in between. So with this mind we have developed some techniques to keep unruly facial hair
under control.
First and foremost, you will need a comb, especially if your facial hair tends to curl. A wide-toothed comb
is affordable and does a better job than a regular hairbrush. Get two combs, one for the home, and the other
in your car so your beard grooming is portable. If a regular comb-through doesn't tame the beard, then spritz a little
water to get it under control. Alternatively you can also use a specially formulated beard conditioner if you need
that extra hold or style.
Another trick is to take your shower a little earlier then you are normally used to. By washing your beard with a shampoo,
condtioner, or a handmade soap, you will prevent many a bad hair day. Keep your beard wet, don't dry with the towel, rather
just pat it down so its not dripping water. Then brush through with your comb as above until its set. Here is where you
need that extra time: the fifteen or twenty extra minutes will let it dry in the position you combed it. If your commute
is long, then you don't even need to take it earlier. Just take your shower as usual, and it will set while you are going
to work.
Finally, don't fuss over it too much. If you overdo it, with multiple sprays, oils or lotions you will end up looking
like you pasted your beard on your face. Moderation is the key to keeping your beard looking great. Its really simple
to mantain a beard, much simpler than shaving. As a rule of thumb, you should be spending less than half the time than
you would normally send on shaving daily.
